Hello from Paqui! 😊
As we know, collage is such a versatile art form, and sometimes the tools we use can make a big difference in the creative process. Over the past year, I’ve discovered that while there are countless options out there, it’s all about finding what works best for you.
Today, I’m happy to share with you my top 5 essential tools for collage.
None of them are adv or anything like that, is just some of the products I truly like the most. Here we go!
#1: Fiskars Knife
There are so many cutting tools to choose from, but this finger-loop detail knife is on another level. It’s comfortable to use, offers great control, and makes cutting intricate details feel effortless. I honestly can’t imagine creating without it! If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend giving it a go—you might just fall in love with it too.
#2: Scissors
For us analog collagists, scissors are an absolute must. ✂️
Over time, I’ve experimented with various sizes, shapes, and materials, but somehow, I always come back to my very first pair. They’re nothing fancy, but they feel right in my hands. Maybe it’s nostalgia, or maybe it’s the charm of simplicity—but they’re my trusty companions in every project.
#3: Glue Stick
When it comes to adhesives, I’m currently experimenting with different types of glue (stay tuned for a possible future post all about them!).
However, the classic UHU stick remains my go-to. It’s reliable, simple, and effectiv: exactly what I need for clean and easy application.
#4: Metal Ruler
Precision is key in collage, and a metal ruler is a game-changer for clean, straight cuts. Whether I’m trimming edges or creating geometric shapes, it’s my secret weapon for accuracy.
#5: Collage Brush
Lately, I’ve been exploring different glues and sealers, which led me to discover this handy little brush.
It’s been a game-changer for applying adhesives smoothly and evenly—definitely worth having in your toolkit.
…Of course I couldn’t finish this list without mentioning the humble cutting mat! It’s an absolute must-have for protecting your workspace and ensuring clean cuts. They come in various sizes, but my A3 mat works perfectly for my current projects.
Why Tools Matter
These tools are more than just supplies—they’re an extension of the creative process. They help me bring ideas to life and give me the freedom to explore and experiment with my work.
What about you? What are your go-to tools for collage or any creative activity? I’d love to hear your recommendations.
